WALKING IN MY MOTHER'S SHOES.COM http://info@artscouncilofmuskoka A CELEBRATION OPEN TO ALL Only when we have walked in someone's shoes can we begin to feel what they felt. WHAT IS "WALKING IN MY MOTHER'S SHOES"? This is intended to be a yearly event held around Mother's Day. It will be a celebration of the lives of our mothers - whether they endured great struggles, experienced wonderful successes - whether they were mentors and loved us unconditionally - whether they punished us or whether they were encouraging. This will be an acknowledgement of the highs and the lows. This exhibition will write , paint, sing, sculpt, photograph, draw, collage, knit, quilt, print and sew the journeys of our mothers --- of course it will be a reflection of our journey as well for whether we want to or not we do walk in our mothers' shoes. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? This exhibition is open to all - we can all express ourselves - there will be no judges - we will celebrate our mothers and tell of their journeys and in so doing our journeys as well. It can be held anywhere and each participating group is responsible for its own organization. I intend that the venues and images of the exhibits will be posted on this site accessible to all - so we can all acknowledge our mothers. Wouldn't a book containing images of this celebration from around the world be wonderful... in the future.... This idea will spread everywhere in each community when on each yearly mother's day, there will be exhibitions celebrating WALKING IN MY MOTHER'S SHOES. we are all artists - we are all creators and we are all creations. This exhibition will bring together both professional artists and the broader community in these diverse artistic endeavours. We will be linked together through WALKINGINMYMOTHERSSHOES.COM where contacts can be made and exhibitions from all over the world shown in the virtual gallery - bringing us all together. Whatever we create for WALKING IN MY MOTHER'S SHOES will be celebrated, contemplated and acknowledged by all. WHY????? AFTER MY MOTHER, HALINA Wilanowski, DIED, I KEPT SOME OF HER SHOES. TO ME THEY SYMBOLIZED HER WHOLE LIFE, FOR SHE WORE THEM EVERYDAY, WHETHER SHE LAUGHED, CRIED, BAKED, LOOKED AFTER US, LOVED, WORKED, MOURNED, CELEBRATED, DANCED, PRAYED.... THE WEIGHT OF AN ENTIRE WORLD - AN ENTIRE LIFE - WAS SUPPORTED ON THOSE SHOES. AND THAT IS WHERE THE TITLE CAME FROM....I AM STILL WALKING IN THEM.
